Studio Toast: The Artist

Hi, I’m Steven Hernandez — the sculptor, builder, and storyteller behind Studio Toast.

Born in Miami and raised in West Palm Beach, Steven Hernandez is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is deeply rooted in craftsmanship, culture, and personal transformation. His creative journey began in his father’s mechanic shop, where early exposure to automotive restoration sparked a lifelong fascination with form, function, and customization.

As a teenager, Hernandez acquired a 1971 Dodge Valiant and set out to reimagine it—jet-black exterior, red interior, and hydraulic suspension. It was his first true canvas. Though the car was eventually stolen, the experience solidified his passion for reworking the ordinary into something extraordinary. For Steven, the world of customization became limitless—and so did his artistic expression.

Entirely self-taught across multiple disciplines, Hernandez has spent over two decades exploring graffiti, mural work, tattooing, oil painting, acrylic, airbrushing, pastel, sculpting, and custom motorcycle building. In 2023, he attended the Boca Raton Museum Art School, where he encountered clay for the first time—an experience that deeply expanded his creative vocabulary. Today, he’s focused on creating functional ceramic pieces, such as mugs, that blur the line between fine art and everyday use.

Steven’s background in automotive collision restoration, coupled with his time in the corporate world, brings a unique duality to his work—where blue-collar precision meets conceptual exploration. As a Cuban Colombian American, his practice is also enriched by cultural heritage, resilience, and storytelling through object-making.

His work has been exhibited at The BAILEY Art Gallery in the Hot Off The Easel exhibition (Dec 2024 – Jan 2025) and is currently featured in the Miami International Auto Show, where his creative origins come full circle.
